United drops the flight-count route to Premier status in 2027 and raises the 1K thresholdUnited will remove the flight-count route to Premier status from January 1, 2027, leaving PQP thresholds and a four-flight minimum. Frequent flyers who relied on the lower-spend route will need more PQP, while Premier 1K’s points-only threshold rises to 32,000. United is changing how MileagePlus members earn Premier status from January 1, 2027. In an announcement posted October 13, 2026, the airline confirmed that Premier qualifying flights, or PQF, will no longer form a separate qualification route. Members will qualify through Premier qualifying points, or PQP, while still taking at least four flights operated by United or United Express. PQP are United’s status-qualifying points, distinct from redeemable MileagePlus miles. United says members can earn them through eligible travel on United, United Express and Star Alliance partners, or eligible United card spending. The new structure therefore does not mean every qualifying point must come from a United ticket. The 2027 requirements are: Premier Silver: 6,000 PQP; Premier Gold: 12,000 PQP; Premier Platinum: 18,000 PQP; Premier 1K: 32,000 PQP.

JAL Mileage Bank awards face higher fuel surcharges under November–December proposalIn their October 15 announcement, Japan Airlines and Japan Transocean Air said they had requested government approval for revised international fuel surcharges at Zone S. The proposal covers tickets purchased in Japan and issued from November 1 through December 31, 2026. The rates remain subject to government approval. Those are ticket-issuance dates; the announcement does not establish a travel window. There are two boundaries to keep straight. The announcement concerns tickets purchased in Japan, while JAL’s published surcharge policy table covers travel originating in Japan. For a journey that meets both conditions, the proposed Japan–North America/Europe/Middle East/Oceania surcharge is ¥62,000 per person, per segment to or from Japan, subject to approval. That is the fuel surcharge alone.

Qantas retires Points Club and Green Tier on December 8Qantas Frequent Flyer will retire Points Club, Points Club Plus and Green Tier on December 8, 2026. Those qualification routes are closing, but the benefits do not all stop together: valid Points Club entitlements can continue under their membership rules, while ordinary Green Tier benefits end on retirement day. The retirement applies to these components of Qantas Frequent Flyer. Qantas’s dedicated retirement FAQ names December 7 as the last day to attain Points Club or Points Club Plus, and its program terms require qualification before December 8. However, the live Points Club page says on or before December 8, while one FAQ example says by December 8. Cached Qantas Hotels wording also uses December 8, but could not be verified on the live page. The explicit last-day answer and terms make December 7 the better-supported planning boundary, subject to an earlier personal Membership Year deadline. The conflict remains unresolved; the checked sources give no exact cutoff time or timezone.
