Qantas retires Points Club and Green Tier on December 8
WATCHWhat happened
Qantas Frequent Flyer will retire Points Club, Points Club Plus and Green Tier on December 8, 2026. Those qualification routes are closing, but the benefits do not all stop together: valid Points Club entitlements can continue under their membership rules, while ordinary Green Tier benefits end on retirement day. The retirement applies to these components of Qantas Frequent Flyer.
Qantas’s dedicated retirement FAQ names December 7 as the last day to attain Points Club or Points Club Plus, and its program terms require qualification before December 8. However, the live Points Club page says on or before December 8, while one FAQ example says by December 8. Cached Qantas Hotels wording also uses December 8, but could not be verified on the live page. The explicit last-day answer and terms make December 7 the better-supported planning boundary, subject to an earlier personal Membership Year deadline. The conflict remains unresolved; the checked sources give no exact cutoff time or timezone.
Impact
That boundary is not a promise that a last-minute transaction will count. For non-airline partner points, Qantas’s terms tie the accrual date to when the partner advises Qantas of the points earned. A card purchase or transfer request made before the deadline does not, by itself, prove qualification. The checked Qantas notices establish no amendment to a named card issuer’s earning or transfer contract; individual issuer terms were not audited.
For valid pre-retirement Points Club qualification, applicable benefits continue through the Membership Year in which qualification occurred and the following Membership Year. Check your own qualification, retention and expiry dates: current membership does not automatically gain another year when the program retires. Issued Hotels and Holidays vouchers and lounge invitations keep their existing expiry dates and conditions. Retirement neither cancels them all on December 8 nor extends their validity.
Travel benefits still have their own rules. Status Credits on eligible Qantas-marketed Classic Flight Rewards and Classic Plus Flight Rewards require Points Club or Points Club Plus membership when you fly, with your frequent-flyer number in the booking before departure. Surviving Points Club Plus-derived Qantas Club membership remains subject to the applicable lounge and flight conditions. Ordinary Points Club invitations do not become partner-lounge passes. No alliance-wide access or award-rule change is established by this retirement.
Green Tier follows a tighter timetable. It is available to Australian residents with an Australian residential address in their member profile, and the retirement FAQ gives December 7 as the final attainment day. Ordinary benefits end from December 8. The same FAQ expressly preserves a narrow exception for an already-earned bonus that has not been chosen: 90 days from the original qualification date to select 10,000 Qantas Points or 50 Status Credits. That specific exception sits alongside the terms’ broad benefit-cessation language; it does not restart the selection clock or extend ongoing Green Tier benefits.
Hotel benefits need the same care. Surviving Points Club hotel benefits remain subject to eligible booking rules and individual entitlement. The checked material does not settle how Green Tier hotel bookings, stays or delayed bonus postings spanning retirement will be treated. Separately, earned ALL Accor Silver status keeps its own validity through the acquisition calendar year and the next under the current partner terms. The future Points Club-dependent fast-track transition is not specified, and the retirement does not establish cancellation of the whole Qantas–ALL relationship.
