Wyndham’s September award changes protect earlier points bookings
What happened
Wyndham Rewards changed its award tiers on September 15, 2026, moving some hotels higher and others lower. Points bookings made before that date keep their booked price, and Wyndham says it automatically returns the difference when the points requirement falls.
The program retains a fixed-tier structure without seasonal or dynamic tier pricing. The dividing line is when you book, not when you stay: Wyndham’s redemption footnote applies the September boundary to both free nights and points-plus-cash bookings.
Impact
The award type still matters to your bill. At participating hotels, standard-room free nights cover local taxes and resort fees, subject to availability; incidentals remain extra. Participating Caesars properties follow separate rules, including blackout restrictions and resort fees excluded from the award.
The Snob’s take: a fixed chart can still move the goalposts. Before a new booking, check the current quote and award type. Hotel points-plus-cash charges are shown before booking, with taxes and fees extra.
For an older booking, do not cancel merely to chase the promised automatic refund. Whether protection survives a modification or cancellation and rebooking remains unverified, as do refund timing and individual account credits. Property cancellation rules apply, and changing or cancelling an award can forfeit expired points.
